Draw with your old fashion typewriter

"27 year old British artist Keira Rathbone creates much of her artwork from a typewriter. In this digital age Rathbone has decided to use a more old-fashioned technique.
“She bought an old typewriter from a flea market in the hope that she would soon use it to write something. By the middle of her first year at the university, she hadn’t come up with anything to put down on paper, so she decided to use it as a drawing tool. The first results were promising, and young Keira quickly realized she would be exploring this new art form much further.”

Font generator / processing : prototyp-0 from yannick mathey on Vimeo.

Yannick Mathey explains (in the comments on the Vimeo-pages) that of course he didn’t intend to replace the type designer, yet his app is designed to facilitate experimentation. For every parameter markers are set up to indicate trespassing the rules of what is commonly considered good design, yet the markers are also there to be crossed, opening up the possibilities to generate extraordinary forms.

It allows the user to create an infinite variety of paths on any magnetic surface. While the toy is not in use, it cleverly forms a rectangular shape that can act as abstract wall art or beautiful and simple decor.
