A fabulous Japanese still life photographer
An interview with Kenji Toma:
"Toma majored in photography at the Tokyo Professional School. After graduating in 1978, he worked as a photo assistant for still-life and fashion photographers in Japan before striking out on his own at the age of 30. One of the defining assignments of his early career was a fashion catalogue that he shot for Matsuda on the Japanese island of Hokkaido. The models appeared as diminutive figures in breathtaking black-and-white landscapes?reflecting a perspective seen in traditional Japanese prints, of the insignificance of man in a vast universe..."
